In the past, bulging venous varicosities were removed by surgical incisions, which usually required suturing leaving unsightly scars at the sites of the varicosities. Microphlebectomy, sometimes called ambulatory phlebectomy, allows for the removal of the abnormal veins through small puncture wounds that require no suturing and leave minimal or no scars.
