What is Phlebology?

Phlebology is the study of diseases of the veins including the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease. Vein disease afflicts 80 million Americans, and physicians who specialize in this field are called phlebologists. For many years European physicians led with more interest and innovation in the diagnosis and treatment of vein disease, but in recent years American physicians and surgeons dedicated to the treatment of patients with vein disease have made major contributions redounding to the benefit of patients suffering from vein problems. Much of this progress has been fostered by the American College of Phlebology encouraging physicians and surgeons to acquire specialized knowledge and expertise in the diagnosis and treatment of vein diseases.
